Begslist Begslist.org, one of the original crowdfunding websites, was founded in 2007 and quickly gained attention through TV news segments, newspaper features across the U.S., radio broadcasts on NPR and BBC Radio, and even on New York Times Square billboards. The founder created the site with the goal of helping people seek donations before well-known crowdfunding platforms emerged. The concept of asking for help online resonated with many, leading to the rise of similar websites that soon saturated and dominated the crowdfunding industry. Begslist was run entirely by volunteers, dedicated to helping those in need without expecting anything in return. Unfortunately, in 2010, the site had to close its doors when the volunteers could no longer sustain the time and effort required to compete with other crowdfunding platforms.
